Meet Our Doctors


Barrett G. Peterson, D.M.D.

bgpBarrett graduated from Montpelier High School in 1978. His love for fly-fishing, canoeing, camping, skiing and hockey kept him in the northeast as he pursued his undergraduate education at St. Lawrence University. Barrett received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1982.

Barrett met his wife and classmate, Mary, at St. Lawrence and they were married after graduation. In Boston, Mary pursued a degree in law while Barrett began his dental training at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Barrett received his doctoral degree in 1986 and started a dental residency program at the Fernald School for the handicapped, Lemual Shattuck Hospital, Boston City Hospital, and New England Medical Center.

In 1987, Barrett returned to Tufts for his two-year orthodontic residency program. In 1989, he moved back to Vermont with his wife and their four-month old daughter to join Champlain Orthodontic Associates. Barrett and Mary now have four adult children.

Barrett remains active in the dental community. He served as past Secretary to the Vermont State Dental Society Executive Board and was past President of the Champlain Valley Dental Society. In February 2001, he achieved the Status of Diplomat, American Board of Orthodontics. Barrett also maintains hospital privileges at FAHC as the Orthodontic team member of the Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic.

Barrett has participated as a hockey coach for CSB hockey, and has been an active member of the Jay Peak Ski Patrol since 1989. Barrett is a past Board member with the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association. Other hobbies include bee keeping, timber frame construction, bowl turning and boat building.

Daniel J. Ryan Jr., D.D.S., M.S.

drryanfamDan was born in Buffalo, NY and raised nearby in the small town of Alden. After graduating from high school, he attended St. John Fisher College in Rochester, NY. In 1996, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. While enrolled at SJFC, Dan was a member of the football team. Dan attended Dental School at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2000. He was the President of the American Student Dental Association and was inducted into the OKU Dental Society. Dan continued his training at SUNY at Buffalo for his certificate to specialize in Orthodontics and his Masters of Science in 2002.

Dan stays very active within his profession. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Northeast Society of Orthodontics, Vermont Association of Orthodontics, Vermont State Dental Society, and the Champlain Valley Dental Society. Dan has served as the Vice-President and President for the CVDS organization (2007 and 2008). In 2005, Dr. Ryan became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dan and his wife, Chantal, currently reside in Richmond, Vermont. They moved to Vermont in 2003 to join Champlain Orthodontics. They have two children, Grace and Finn. Both enjoy traveling, camping, and the outdoors. Dan spends much of his leisure time hiking, snowboarding, fly-fishing, and golfing.

Elissa A. Eaton, D.M.D., M.S.

dreatonfamA native of Colchester, Vermont, Ellie attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania for her undergraduate studies where she was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She later pursued her dental degree at the University of Connecticut where she became a member of the OKU Dental Society and received several awards, including the Alpha Omega Fraternity Award and the American Association of Orthodontists Award. She was also active as a volunteer and traveled to Peru to provide dental treatment to underserved communities. Ellie completed her specialty training in orthodontics at SUNY at Buffalo and received her Master of Science degree there as well.

Ellie returned to her home state in 2005 to join Champlain Orthodontics. She is an active member of the Vermont Association of Orthodontists, the Vermont State Dental Society, the Champlain Dental Society, the American Dental Association, and the American Association of Orthodontists.

Ellie resides in Williston where you’ll find her busy at home with her husband and three wonderful children. They love to be outdoors and spend time hiking, camping and swimming.
